I installed the Thetford vent today. Install instruction from the original poster was accurate. Only things I would add is that you need to install it low enough so that it doesn't obstruct the bathroom wall when folded down and don't install too far left toward the tub because there is wood in that section of the wall that will make it hard to dimple the interior wall for the nut to catch the threads. Even with dimpling, I had to install the nut backwards to catch the threads on the vent. I also installed the vent opening facing the ground so that the wind blowing left or right past the vent may better create a venturi effect and draw the air out instead of blowing directly into the vent and causing positive pressure to backflow the fumes into the bathroom & trailer.

The winds were strong here today (15-25mph). I placed my hand into the bowl and could not feel any noticeable draft. I suppose if the wind was strong and blowing directly broadside against the side of the trailer where the vent is located that it very well could backflow the fumes into the bathroom & trailer. In that ends up being the case, I installed a valve to seal off the vent until the winds die down. After the install, I could immediately smell fumes exiting at the vent outside. Only thing left to do is put some caulk around the vent.

I'll provide a field report on the Thetford vent next time we take it camping - but it may be next season before we get out again.

My 2008 2619 has this vent kit installed and it does some good but after watching a few other types of ventilation projects using a small computer fan to pull fresh air down into the tank and expelling fumes through the kitchen vent stack, wouldn't it be pretty easy to add an inline fan to the Thetford vent kit? I think you could tie into the power supply for the toilet recirculating pump so you had power right at the fan unit. Anyone like to share an opinion about this or has anyone done this modification already?

The first and shorter segment leads into a small and quiet 12v computer fan (low RPMs, a "northbridge fan" or "SSD fan" rather than a CPU fan). I added a switch for that fan on the front of the vanity (the sink base), next to the existing switch for the big and loud OEM fan. Following the fan, another sgegment of flex pipe connects into the existing DWV pipe (under the bathroom wall, above the kitchen sink trap).

When traveling and camping, we run that fan 24x7. The smell outside is hard to detect, the noise is non-existent, and the bathroom smell is totally gone.

Thanks for your reply. I read through this whole thread with great interest and posed my question because my Trailmanor already had a passive vent system installed (the Trailmanor kit). My question was posed to see what others thought about splicing an exhaust fan into that kit and drawing power for it from the electrical which powers the recirculating pump in the toilet. Since I already have a hole in the side of my trailer venting it, would others think it viable to pop a powered fan inline? Or is there some reason this would be a bad idea?

The input power wires for the toilet pump would be an OK power source, IMO, with a separate fan control switch added - but the assembly wouldn't look as clean as the current kit. Then fan would need to be placed above the safety valve, and there isn't enough remaining height (above the safety splash valve, but below the current elbow) to insert a fan with adapters between the narrow pipe and the larger diameter fan assembly. Such adaptaption could be done Something could be done using only 3M aluminum foil tape, but it wouldn't be pretty in the exposed area.

Rick's idea of the ball valve for an antisplash valve is a fantastic one. Be aware, though, that you might get splash up from the bowl instead, if the plastic sleeve in the bottom of the bowl is in poor shape or even missing. There are threads in this forum on how to replace this sleeve if necessary.

Nice work! My Thetford water flush pipes are broken and I’m on the fence of repairing It or replacement with some form of cassette toilet I see on the forum.
I’ll keep your vent in mind.
