Default Norcold Refrigerator recall (model N300.3rh)

I have a problem with my Norcold refrigerator (Model N300.3rh) in my 2005 3326King TM. The gas flame would not light and the flame meter would move to the green and return to the white. I took it to an RV dealer who is also a Norcold Service Center. The mechanic moved the thermocouple one quarter of an inch and then held the gas safety valve button for one minute, while pushing the piezo lighter. That lit the gas flame. The mechanic said that the Norcold lighting instructions are wrong. You should hold the gas safety valve for one minuite. I was told that there would be a service charge for this. I said that it should be covered under warranty. The service manager proceded to call Norcold to check if this work was under warranty. After the service manager finished talking with Norcold, he was told that this model Norcold has a recall on this model. It has something to do with replacing the harness of the flame meter. I was not charged. Most newer TrailManors have this model N300.3rh refrigerator. I would suggest that if you have this refrigerator that you call Norcold. 1-800-543-1219 or www.norcold.com. Norcold has other refrigerators recalls listed on their web site, but does not show this one. This is their latest recall.

I've had a problem with my N300.3 since it was new. It will not stay lit after you release the gas safety valve. The dealer fixed if last year but the problem reappeared this spring. I called the Norcold factory number and all they would give me was a service number and the location of their nearest service dealer which was an hour away. They appear to only share the repair information with their authorized service dealers.

In the mean time I fixed it by jiggling the wires that connect to the gas safety valve. Apparently they have a wiring kit that they will supply to hopefully fix this problem. When I get the kit from my TM dealer I'll take some photos and share them. With only 10 - 30 mV coming from the thermocouple to the safety valve any resistance in the contacts can cause it not to function properly.

genesc, I'm not sure your problem is related but perhaps others are having this issue or have found a permanent solution they can share.

I had this problem with my refrig. I posted a photo under the subject line below (note the mis spelled word..) It has worked since the repair described. It takes a loooong time to light. Maybe 2 or 3 minutes before it stays lit with the button out. I hope this helps you.

I received the Norcold Service Kit to fix the problem with the N300 not staying lit while running on propane. The instructions which also include some diagnostic procedures are in the link below. If you have this problem you should contact your dealer for the kit or have them install it while it’s under warranty.

I am having the same problem but could not find the posted image. Please help. This is very frustrating not having the gas stay on.

Here is some random stuff I was saving before my Norcold gas problem was resolved by the service bulliten:

Great info!
Yes, this sounds like the same thing Norcold told my service tech
(I think I referred to it as the "interface" in my recent messages).
I'm looking at the Service Bulletin now.
It is titled N300 LP Mode Troubleshooting.
The reference number is: TNCSTP 081804.
The first page just shows a flow chart of
potential causes and the second page is entirely devoted to
testing the interuptor. Assuming this is the problem with my
(our) N300's, is there any way that you know of to keep this 'film'
from building up, or is it just a by product of fumes from the burner?
Maybe some of that liquid wire insulation you see at the hardware store??
=================================================

Just wanted to let you all know I gave my service rep. a copy of
all the correspondence that has been going on here lately.
He found it very interesting reading, guess we should start a new business!
(Don’t’ know if that is novel writing or a repair shop) Anyway, with that
note, I have received a “NORCOLD Service Kit” – which consists of
two wires…and repair instructions. NORCOLD - suddenly produced a
publication stating:
“Purpose of this kit is to repair NORCOLD N300 model refrigerators
that do not stay lit in LP mode.” (what an understatement!)…
anywho - the ‘kit’ is labeled
“N300 Interrupter-Selector Switch Wire kit” Kit part No. 628119
(Pub. Part No. 628120 (3/05) – (note the date!!!)

I’m back out to the cabin to replace the wires that keep filming;
with these wires in the ‘kit’. My service rep. stated that NORCOLD
has admitted to using the wrong type of wiring in these N300’s.
We’ll see if this fixes the problem. However, not so sure since
reading that, yours Jim, lasted eight days – then went out again.
Check the film on the thermocouple. I’ll let you know how the wiring goes.

I have a pdf for the Norcold service bulliten, but I can't figure out how to attach it. I'm pretty srue I pulled it off of the Norcold site.

Wayne -

At the bottom of your post, click "Edit".
When the Edit window comes up, click "Go Advanced"
At the bottom of the Advanced window, click "Manage Attachments"
In the "Manage Attachments" window, click the first "Browse" button, and find the attachment on your computer.
Click "Upload", and wait until it is done (it may be slow).
Click "Close this window"
Click "Post this message" (or something similar).

This should do it. I'm anxious to see that bulletin.

PopBeavers,

Thanks for the post on the kit. My fridge worked intermittently and on ocasion I went the (suicide) toothpick way, so I ordered the kit and installed it recently. Fridge works great on gas now!!
