How did/do you remove the black covers off the two OEM stereo speakers on the overhead cabinet in prep for removing the speakers themselves?

I can't check ours as it is put away, but typically the covers are a press fit to the speaker flange and the flange is attached to the wall with light weight nuts and bolts...

They just snap on. Ours fall off on most trips.

Mine screw off and they do fall off occasionally especially if you travel rough roads.

I am experiencing the same problem as this TM Forum member who wrote:

"They are supposed to pry off from the front so you can get to the wood screws to remove the speakers. The covers are on so tight they won't not pry off. Tried a flat screwdriver, putty knife, etc. to no avail. It appears that I will have to rip out the speakers and strip the screw holes."

I haven't yet pried so hard as to break the black plastic or rip the speaker out of the wood panel. One cover rotated 1/8 back and forth without releasing then locked up tight. I am still hoping there is a trick to popping them off but it appears that you either can't keep them on or they're on so tight you have to break either the plastic or wood panel to get them off. Still like the idea of getting the black cover to pop off more easily somehow without breaking anything.

Koz,
Great modification idea's. Can you tell me how you attached the grab handles? What size screws and what's behind the shell that I would be screwing into?
Thank you,
Jimmy

When we bought our TM, it already had a grab handle inside that was installed with screws. We had a heavy guest who hardly pulled on the handle but pulled the handle out. I have yet to re-install a new handle but think I will use bolts that have wide washers and nuts to secure the fitting.

You've got to be careful with the speaker covers. I opened my TM up on the street on a return trip yesterday prior to putting it back in the garage, and one of my speaker covers fell off onto the street. I ran over it with the trailer when I moved the TM.

The stock speakers are not that good, so I am thinking about replacing them.
The ones Pitbull linked to look pretty good.
