We pulled our 2619 for about 3 years before buying the Excursion. We didn't use a WDH or a sway bar and never had any trouble. It did pull hard on Caravan in the steeper highways in the Arkansas Ozarks, but we go to the Smokies most of the time and never had any trouble. One thing to consider is that the Chrysler might have enough "options" added that might cause a weight variance.

Ken,

Both the Dodge Grand Caravan and the Chrysler Town & Country have the same engines available. Base motor is a 3.3L and then there is the 3.8L. There is a tow package available and I believe it is available on both engines. We have a '05 Grand Caravan with the bigger motor and tow package. With the tow package, the vans can pull up to 3,800 pounds. The tow package includes a heavier GVWR rating, all the engine coolers, H.D. battery and alternator, load leveling and appropriate wiring harness. I believe the Chryslers only come in one wheel (beginning with the '05 model year) base but the Dodge is available with the shorter wheel base.

We just put a deposit on a '05 3023 that we're going to do a "trailer test" this weekend. From what I have been reading here and other places, I think we'll be OK just as long as we don't head west and pack carefully!

Hope this helps.

Steve

Ken,

Here's some additional information. If you currently have one of these products, you should check out the owner's manual to get an idea of what your vehicle is capable of towing.

There are a couple of things that you need to take into consideration.

1. How many people will you be carrying while pulling the trailer?
2. How much gear will you be carrying
3. You need to consider the tongue wight of the trailer. This weight must be included in your van's GVWR.

When I look at my owner's manual, both the 3.3 and 3.8 engines have a max vehicle and trailer combined weight of 6,600#'s without the trailer tow package versus 8,600 #'s for the two engines with the trailer tow package.
