Default Water pump replacement info

The base of our water pump was cracked and leaking. This is on a 2009 2720 (but new-to-us). It was leaking the very first time we used it. The rest of the system seemed to be winterized properly, so I'm not certain what caused it to crack.

Anyway, I wanted to share a few things for reference for others on the forum. I don't know if the same model of water pump is used on all TM models, but I figure it could be. The original pump was SHURflo model 2088-422-144. Based on some web research, this model number is only sold to OEM's. When it's sold aftermarket, the same SHURflo pump has model number 2088-422-444. Both have specs of 2.8 GPM, 7 amps max, 45 PSI outlet, 12 VDC, 1/2" water pipes.

The manufacturer is now (July, 2014) in the process of discontinuing the original model and replacing them with SHURflo model 4008-101-E65 3.0 Revolution Water Pump. Right now the price ranges look about the same for the old versus the new model. The specs for the new pump are: 3.0 GPM, 7.5 amps max, 55 psi, 12 VDC, 1/2" water pipes. Web site descriptions and other basic features sound the same.

So I bought the new replacement (4008-101-E65) and just installed it. The mounting pattern for the four screws is identical to the original, but the water inlet and outlet tubes are about 1/2" lower relative to the original mounting screws. It looks like the factory intended the pipes to gradually slope down from the pump to the drain, so I didn't want to mount the pump with the tubes lower. I re-tapped the screws into the wall to maintain the pipe slope. It wasn't too bad, but isn't particularly accessible. The new pump is slightly quieter than the original (although I don't know how much wear was on the original). The slightly higher water pressure (55 psi versus 45 psi) isn't noticable to me yet and isn't causing a problem yet. Good so far.

Some other thread mentioned a possibility about drawing a vacuum with the water pump and potentially damaging the pump. How do you prevent that and under what circumstance would that happen?

Yup, the aftermarket one that I installed looks exactly like that with the same specs. So apparently the OEM model number of the new version is 4008-101-A65 while the aftermarket equivalent is 4008-101-E65.
