How hot is too hot?

2005, new to us, 3124KB --- furnace seems too hot, is that possible? The grill over where the heat comes out is understandable hot, but should it burn your fingers? Whatever is across the "aisle" from it is extremely hot too - like the drawers, drawer handles, stuff in the drawers, the couch etc... Thoughts? Thanks,

Everything here is too hot until 1/2 past September.

The discharge grill will not be to hot to touch. Also don't have anything flammable within three feet or a Meter. The rest I can't say without more info but there is a high temp cutout on the heater unless it's failed.

You might want to try that post again. The missing words make it hard to interpret.

I posted this morning (post now seems to be missing) that the grill should NOT be too hot to touch, or hot enough to burn you. In my 2720 SL, my wife regularly sits on the couch in front of the grill, with the warm air blowing directly on her legs. The heated air also blows on the leg of the collapsible table. And for years, our old dog used to like to lie in front of the furnace to warm her old bones.

If it is too hot to touch, I would suggest that you find your way into the enclosure around the furnace - in a 2720SL it is a plywood box under the couch. On the body of the furnace - and in the owner's manual - it will call out very specifically how much clearance must exist around each side of the unit. It is possible that a previous owner stuffed this space with insulation "to improve the efficiency of the furnace". If so, very bad move.

Pull out your owner's manual (or get it online) and confirm that you have what you should have.

Thanks for your input. The trailer does not have 3 feet between the grill and the stuff it faces so I guess I will need to get the furnace looked it... Next time I run the furnace, I am going to hang the oven temp gauge on the grill... I think we would be able to cook something on it!

Thanks for the help --- everything with the furnace looked fine... correct model, no added insulation --- there were a few leaves in the intake... Hopefully that fixes the problem... Thanks again!

These furnaces are designed with with very little to zero clearances needed. They get hot, but you should be able to put you hand on it.

If it's getting that hot, you may have a bad high temp limit switch. Or maybe you just want to get a limit switch that is set to a lower temp or adjustable.

Thank you for your suggestion... There was debris in the intake, so I will run it again to see if anything has changed... It is just hard to bring myself to run the heat when it is 95 degrees outside!

If problem not solved, then I will get it serviced and have them look at the switch.
