Default No 12 Volt Power

A question about the power converter - When plugged in to AC at the campground, does the converter supply power to the RV or does it go through the battery first and therefore supply 12v via the battery?

The reason I ask is that we have NO 12v power right now. All the AC outlets/appliances work, but lights, etc., do not.

The converter is, I think, a WFCO 8300 - Trailmanor is 2007 3124KS. I guess what I'm asking is if the battery is dead and will not take/hold a charge should I still have 12v power or is the converter dead?

Thanks,

Bob

I asked my husband about this because we had our WFCO 8300 on our 2007 Trailmanor go out last year. His reply is:

Can you hear the converter humming. If so it is probably not out ...however possibly part of it is out. Check the circuit breakers first and the fuses. If you do not have a battery tester you can get one for about $6.00 and check the battery with that.

Last Nov. our converter stopped humming while we were on what was intended to be a 18 day trip...after a week into the trip we had a problem come up with our WFCO 8300 converter. We wound up buying another battery which only ran the lights until the battery was drained because the converter was out. We hasd no internet connection except to run 20 miles to town and plug in at Burger King. Someone did post a link to a good resource on the WFCO 8300 which I printed out after arriving back at home from out trip. I will get the link for you and post it.

The converter has a transformer that converts 110v AC to 12v DC. It should work even if you have no battery connected.

If you are getting no 12v it could be that the switch on your bathroom wall is not activated or broken. It could also be a blown fuse or bad transformer.

Default No 12v

Check the fuses. If the battery is really dead the converter may have blown a fuse or shutdown the 12V portion due to high current.

Two things...I need to tell you:

1. I do not seem to have the WFCO 8300 after all ...the model is WF-8955ANZ per my TM manual, my TM is currently closed.

2. This is a link to WFCO where there is a lot of technical info available:

Before you do too much technical, follow Harvyrv's advice and make sure the button switch under the fold-up bathroom wall is not having a problem. If it is you won't have any 12v in the rear half of the trailer. This seems to be a relatively common problem.

To expand on Scott's suggestion.

Check the lights in the front half or vent fan, they are not controlled by the switch in the bathroom. If they work it is the switch. If they don't work, it is most likely a fuse.

I had the the same problem. It was the fuse that is at the battery on mine.

The fuse at the battery should have no effect on the converter putting out 12v while hooked up to household current. They are separate (but connected) circuits.

If there is no battery installed in the TM, you should still have 12v while being plugged into 110v. No power comes from the battery to the camper (while on 110v). However, there is power coming from the converter to the battery while plugged into 110v.
