Default Cabinets coming loose from the wall

We have a 2003 3124KB and the cabinet just to the left of the door where the fire extinguisher and stove are mounted is coming loose from the wall. The oven actually fell forward on one of our trips. I since removed the oven and used new screws to reattach the cabinet, but on subsequent trips the cabinet had again wiggled loose.

From what I can tell the side wall where the door is (and the cabinet is attached to) moves in and out during travel jiggling the cabinet. I’ve searched online for a bit but haven’t seen a similar issue.

Our plan is to reinstall the oven as I suspect it also provides more stability for the cabinets. But I want to make sure it’s secure as it has already fallen out once. Was wondering if building a support base for the oven would be a good idea.

I’ll open the camper up this weekend to get pictures. In the meantime, is this something that can fixed? And what’s the best way to address it?

Thanks,
Joe

My somewhat educated (but not expert) guess is YES. A support base should be a great idea.

The range (stovetop+oven) is heavy, it actually hangs from edges of the opening in the countertop. When road movement tries to move it around, it stresses the cabinetry and tends to pull screws out. On one of my earlier TMs, the cabinetry was not sufficiently rigid to hold the weight properly. In my case, the cabinetry was OK back where it was attached to the wall, but the front edges splayed apart enough to allow the range to drop. This damaged the range structure itself, and after it happened more than once, the range was damaged so badly that it was not repairable and had to be replaced.

I am convinced - though I never tried it - that a good solid support under the range, taking the weight down to the floor and off the countertop, would have prevented this. The range would still have to be securely fastened to the wall, and the support structure would have to be rigid enough that it doesn't wobble and deform under load and road movement, the tendency to splay the cabinetry and pull out the screws should go away.

Just my untested thoughts.

Several years ago, after noticing that the range was rubbing up against the propane line, and thinning it out (increasing the risk for a propane leak), I removed the range and really beefed up its support and attachment. Tens of thousands of miles later, it remains solid.

You can view what I did in post #18 here:

It was easy to do, cheap, and added barely any weight. I also added some abrasion-resistant material around the gas line after cutting out the abraided section.

Apparently I do not have permission to view the link. Have I been bad? Please don't send me to the principal's office!

Likewise. Since I'm new here I thought it was something with my account...

That's odd. The title of the tread is:

"Defect: gas line rubs against oven!"

If you search for that title, or even, "gas line rubs against oven", do you see it?

Very odd. I can see it just find by clicking the link I referenced. It's posted in:

It worked fine for me. Very interesting stuff!

In case the abbreviated web link troll has struck again, here is the entire link... Copy and paste into your browser without the quotation marks.
