Default Roof Vents to Skylights

Having owned our TM for 10 years, we rarely if ever use either of the two roof vents over the living/dining area. The covers are in need of replacement and one has started leaking from around the base. As I considered the effort to restore the vents not used as vents, and the benefit of additional light through skylights, I‘v begun leaning in the direction of replacing them both with skylights. I already have some plans for indirect LED lighting there, so not concerned about that. Also considered enlarging the opening for a larger skylight but have decided against that due to unknown structural impacts and wire route concerns. Any other considerations? Thanks!

If you want it as a skylight, I would simply get a replacement translucent cover for it and call it a day. You are probably correct that enlarging it would be problematic, but others on here would probably know if its feasible.

One mistake I made was assuming that both hatches have the same cover... They don't, so look closely and purchase accordingly. I assume that the hatches vary from model to model and year to year possibly as well, so I wouldn't necessarily rely on what hatch cover someone else purchased unless it's the same trailmanor. Good luck and have fun !

There’s lots of trailers that use a skylight in the bathrooms, so your ideas makes sense for how you use your camper. Amazon sells the standard sized skylights, I agree with Jason’s suggestion to measure your vents to ensure you get the correct size. I’d like to see the end results if you do change over.

Eric,

You might consider why RV's have roof vents before replacing yours with a skylight which would be non vented. I did a quick search and came up with this short description;

"The reason why RV's are given an option of roof vents is because they provide for good air circulation, helps pushing the stale air outside and keep the RV interior air fresh. RV roof vents provide ventilation in RV when you cannot keep windows or door open."

The vents also help with expelling moisture generated during food preparation.

Default Removing the Vent

I have a '03 3023 that has a vent over the stove in the back shell, and the front shell has at AC unit and 2 ceiling vents that run in a strait line down the center of the TM. I have always had a leak problem in between the ac and the 1st vent. Im considering taking out that vent. and making the roof solid from the ac to the 2nd vent. What are your opinions on this.

Default New skylights

Last fall I replaced the two forward vent covers with opaque skylights. Really like the additional light and the bonus is having addressed several issues we had with the vents. Sharing some pics for those who may be interested. Apologies for the rotated photos. Must be a “feature” of this system
