Default Self Adjusting Brakes

I just wanted to give all the heads up that etrailer.com is having a 10% off sale because of their 1000th "Like" on Facebook. The Dexter self adjusting 10" Brakes are already on sale for $48.95 each and with the 10% off, the pair is only $88.12, no tax, and shipping is pretty reasonable. So, if you are thinking about upgrading to the Nev-R-adjust brakes, now would be a good time to do it. Use the code "fbthousand" in the Referral Code box during checkout. The 10% sale will last until next Wednesday (10/12/11).

I ordered mine and today and they have shipped already!

Thanks for the heads up. I have already received the brakes and have them installed. This company is very customer friendly.

Back in the days when I did all my own work on my cars, adjusting the drum brakes was easy. Access to the hole the tool that you adjusted with went into...not so much.

You just tightened the brakes until they began to bind, then backed off a notch or two. The TM brakes look the same to me. Do they work the same?

Another question: Many auto adjusting brakes do the adusting when you back up. When do the ones on sale adjust? Or maybe How? is a better question.

Tom

Hi Tom, To your first question, Yes, the TM brakes are just like the cars and are adjusted the same way. The self adjusting brakes I like because I never have to adjust them again, and they are adjusted all the time as wear takes place. The way that these work (from the way they look) is that every time the brakes are applied, there is a cable running from the front shoe around a pulley and to the adjustment spring so that when the cable is "pulled" the spring will index the star wheel as needed.

Dave, these are for the 10"x2.25" brakes in the 3500# Dexter Torsion axles that are on all Trailmanors AFAIK

(are the double axle Trailmanor's 3500# each?)

I'm going to replace the nuts, washers (4 for each brake, I think) and seals as well.
