Default Hail Damage

I am posting pics of our 2006 2720. We live in Knoxville, TN and had hail and winds on Wed.. Trees down, a limb through our living room and front porch. One of the tree tops was resting on our TM and Jere's 1985 Honda Prelude. Significant hail damage on all three of our vehicles as well as the TM. Also, hail broke the roof vent and by the time we realized it we had very wet carpet, leaves all over, etc. W/O electricity until Friday night. Insurance adjusters supposed to come next week about vehicles and TM. Any advice?

Very sorry to hear of your situation. Sad situation. I hope you can recover quickly.

I just went thru the hail damage thing last summer. Main problem i ran into was an insurance adjuster that knew nothing about TM's. The roof of a TM can not be "overlaid" with another sheet of metal. The roof has to be replaced and it is very expensive to do so.

I had the Progressive agent meet me at the dealer and I had a quote from the dealer on what repairs would cost, then it went smoothly. I suspect your trailer will be totaled, as ours was. We took less of a settlement to be able to keep the TM.

Sorry to hear about your TM and other damage.

This is the reason I put Maxair covers on all our vents as soon as I got our trailer. They won't stop big hail, nothing will anyway, but they have some flex in them and might prevent a breach of the vents.

Default hail damage

Looks like ya'll took a really bad hit. We were camped at Lake Sinclare. a USFS campground between between Eatonton and Milledgeville west of US441 when the storms came through. Nothing but lighting and heavy rain so we dodge that bullet.

Our '03 2720SL got "hailed" on 4-9-11. Not as many dents as the one from Knoxville, but some much bigger. Baseball size dents riddle the roofs (trailer was open). Just got an offer from insurance adjustor for about $4000 ... the fight begins! I took the TM to an authorized dealer. They said the factory told them that the roof skins are not replaceable due to method of construction. The "fix" is really two new upper half sections and the labor involved. More info as it happens.

. Mrfixit, how goes your fight with the insurance company? Would sure like to know. Our claims adjuster called today to tell us they were going to total it, but will call no later than Wednesday with their offer. Sure hope we get enough to buy another TM soon. We are missing going camping! Thanks for any info or help you might be able to offer.

I am at exactly the same stage as you guys. I was supposed to hear from the adjuster who is totaling to TM today ... nothing yet. I'll post as soon as I get word. I told them I have elected to keep the TM, so we'll see what happens.

My 2720 was sideswiped and totaled. My first offer was based on totally ridiculous "book" values.

I called all the dealers in 500 miles. went on Ebay, craigslist and some other RV sites and looked at recent for sale posts here.

With that ammunition I was able to get State Farm to raise the value to something reasonably close to actual retail.

I recruited my local dealer who did the repair extimate to talk to them. they kindly informed my agent that they couldn't find a 2720sl of that year to sell for that price.

Adjuster called yesterday and offered $8560 if I sell it to them and $5516 if I keep it. I asked how they arrived at the numbers. They found an '04 3023 (I have a 2027) for sale at a site I'd never heard of and couldn't find later. It was listed for $8500. I asked if they were using the repair estimate from the TM factory from Ed Lytle, and they didn't know what I was talking about. The adjustor will send me the info and offer and I'll see what they've done so far. Ed's estimate was $12,900 for two new upper roof whole sections...

Thanks, Mrfixit. Our insurance company called Monday and told us they were totaling it and would call possible Tuesday, but no later than Wednesday with an offer. Well, its Wednesday at 7:36 and we did not hear from them, maybe tomorrow. It is an insurance adjuster's world...we can fight them, but eventually they have the final say.
