Wood Finish

We are in the process of sealing the interior unfinished wood in the wardrobe and the hanging cabinet with polyurethane as there is such a strong, sour odor from the 2 cabinets when they are open. We did not notice this odor from any other cabinet. After having clothes hanging in the wardrobe for 1 day, they were unwearable. Granted, I am chemically sensitive, but this even bothered hubby. Anyone else experience this?
In the process of sealing the unfinished wood, I just noticed that some of the "wood grain" finish is starting to peel at the corner of the wardrobe, where it was bumped. What is the recommended glue for reattaching it? I want to do this before the tiny area becomes larger.
