Sofa Cabinet Doors
Has anyone cut open the front of the sofa and put cabinet doors on there for easier access to that storage?
See attached pic.

Interesting idea. You have a 2720sl… I thought the furnace was under the sofa? It is on my 2000 2720sl.

Ya, it is a 2720SL and the furnace is there. I had to edit out the arm of the chair to demonstrate the concept. I forgot that the furnace was there. It really doesn't change the concept though. Getting to items under that sofa seat is a real PITA because you have the remove the sofa back in order to lift the seat and that back is heavy. It really takes two (old) people.
Here's a pic with the furnace drawn in.

What an interesting idea! Especially if you made it with a drawer or a slide out container.

I bet you could make that whole front panel removable easily enough

That would certainly allow much greater access but I would have to build a stronger frame to support the sofa cushion/bed (possibly steel tube). That would just add weight and bulk. Then one has to think about where that large panel would go while it's off. Besides, I just happen to have a cabinet about the right size that I can steal doors off of...
That's the thing about these TrailManors. They are very well designed to be as light as possible. When we start changing things up, it effects other parts of the structure and all of the "little" things that we mod adds up.
I'm already adding a lot of weight with solar panels, inverter, dual 6V batteries, hatch covers etc etc and all the contents of the camper (my wife loves contents ).

A drawer was actually my first thought. Then I started designing it (in my head). A drawer would take up valuable space. A lot more than one might think. I wouldn't be happy with a drawer that drags on the floor when opening so it would have to have slides and slides demand more framing. If stuff shifts in the drawer while towing (which is inevitable) it could keep the drawer from opening and one would be back to removing the cushion to straighten out the contents of the drawer.
Still thinking it through but my wife is out shopping for spray paint that will come close to matching the other existing cabinets.

I was thinking more along the lines of one of those sterilite containers that slide under a bed. They usually have rollers, are self contained and fairly light. Of course you'd have to find one with proper dimensions. Maybe something like this? https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Stora...s%2C111&sr=8-9

Here's an additional idea. As long as you are mucking about under the sofa ("mucking about" is a handy British expression), why not bring a 120VAC line into the area, and put an outlet in the wall end of the panel in question? I did it on my 2006 2720SL, on the wall end of the panel near the furnace, and I love having power handy there. The factory liked the idea, and made it a standard feature shortly thereafter. In retrospect, I wish I had added two outlets, one at each end near the wall.

Thanks Bill...... that was a great idea. However, our 2720SL is a 2009 and (thanks to you) has a factory installed outlet there....
