Default Prodigy 3 Brake Controller

I just installed my new Prodigy 3 brake controller. It was very straight forward and
simple, my question is i seem to have about 0.15 to 0.25 volts (bounces around) on the stop light screen. Should this be at 0.00 volts when brakes are not depressed, and no trailer connected or is there always residual voltage in this line.

Thanks for any advise on this subject in advance

I have a P3 as well. When driving, the voltage reads 0.0. When I come to a stop and am idling with my foot on the brake, I'll often see it settle at 3.4-3.5V and hold there until I take my foot off the pedal, at which time it drops back to 0.0.

One of the features of the P3 is that shortly after coming to a stop with your foot still applied to the brake pedal, the P3 put a 2.5 to 3 volt brake holding voltage to the trailer brakes which is a great asset if you are at stoplights on a hill. It averds from having the trailer weight on your TV brakes.

There may be a problem with the connection to the tow vehicle's brake light switch. When you are not appying the brake, the brake light is not on. The controller sees this, shuts off, and shows zero on the screen.

There is a way to test this. With the trailer hooked up and the electric cable connected, drive along a straight and safe bit of road at a relatively slow speed (maybe 30 mph), and downshift the transmission one or two gears so that you get some engine braking - but DO NOT touch the brake pedal. Is there a change in the voltage shown on the display?

I can think of one other possibilty. Some older foreign vehicles (European, I think) have a weird brake light setup, in which the switch operates in the opposite sense from what is expected in most cars. The installation manual for the controller may mention this, and tell you how to deal with it.

Let us know.

I have an older prodigy and had a problem which encouraged me to call the factory. I spoke with a gal there who knows her stuff and answered every question I had to the best of detail imaginable. I would encourage you to do the same, tech service is really good, she by the way told me exactly where to look for the loose wire, and it was loose. Oh--No charge either.
