Default 16 Steps to Build a Campfire

Was thinking about posting this in General Discussions, under Things I Learned the Hard Way:

1. Split dead limb into fragments and shave one fragment into
slivers.
2. Bandage left thumb.
3. Chop other fragments into smaller fragments
4. Bandage left foot.
5. Make structure of slivers (include those embedded in hand),
6. Light Match
7. Light Match
8. Repeat "a Scout is cheerful" and light match.
9. Apply match to slivers, add wood fragments, and blow gently
into base of fire.
10. Apply burn ointment to nose.
11. When fire is burning, collect more wood.
12. Upon discovering that fire has gone out while out searching
for more wood, soak wood from can labeled "kerosene.
13. Treat face and arms for second-degree burns.
14. Relabel can to read "gasoline".
15. When fire is burning well, add all remaining firewood.
16. When thunder storm has passed, repeat steps.

Making a fire in 15 steps

1 - Pilling up lots of brush and logs.
2- Dump a gallon of gas on pile.
3- Take 13 giant steps back and toss a match.

Campfires....

I remember as a kid, my best friend's dad took us up to Yosemite (in the 60's). They used to start a big ol fire at the top of the falls, with big ol logs, I mean HUGE, and get them burning really good, then they'd chuck them over the falls, what a spectacular sight to see! Flaming logs cascading down the falls...I thought it was pretty cool at the time, kind of like fireworks.

Wonder why they don't do that anymore? LOL!

That was my very first camping experience. My friend had an older brother who kept telling us that bears were going to get into our tent and eat us up.

I'm sure this first camping experience had a lot to do with our decision to buy a TM. Also, the sound of the bear sniffing around our tent at Mammoth Pools in Ca, and seeing a huge brown bear there tearing into the dumpster late at night.

I'd hate to have a bear rip up our dear TM.

I think I'd actually go out and attack it. I think all of us probably would!

We had a police officer come to our office about 2 years ago and explain and demonstrate the use of pepper spray to us. He was a client, and did it as a favor.

I asked him if it would work on bears, and he said it would, but not on raccoons. I have some in my desk drawer at work.

Probably not a bad idea to get some for the TM....?
