Default Check for gas leaks!

My fiancee asked me about a gas smell the other day, downwind from the camper. After some investigation, there was a leak in the fitting between the pigtail and the regulator, and a spungy hose for the pigtail. Soapy water confirmed the presence of a leak.

$25 and a trip to the hardware store later, everything is fixed - simple repair, but I'm glad we spotted it when we did. I'm just glad I had the camper set up for "spring cleaning" so the gas was on - which meant we noticed this before we got to a camp site!

YIKES I have a 2007 year model also...so do you mean the hose had deteriorated to a spongy consistency and was leaking.

Good catch. On the same subject, I just inspected our pigtails last week, and noticed one of the had been rubbing on the threaded metal rod on which the regulator is mounted. It had rubbed all of the rubber off in a spot down to whatever is white underneath (presumably some reinforcement). Yikes. I replaced both pigtails -- they had become stiff as stale bread -- and cut the rod way down.

On a side note, is the yellow Teflon tape just as effective as pipe dope? I used the tape because I didn't have any dope, but I don't have any leaks, so it appears to have worked fine.

BTW - Congrats on your engagement, Joel!
