Default What do I need to start?

About to purchase Trailmanor 3124KB next week. Any advise about any accessories or equipment I might need to buy before I use it. Thanks for the help.

Hi and welcome!

It would help a lot if we knew a little about what you already have:

What are you using as a tow vehicle?

Does it have any towing package?

Other things will depend on how you want to use your trailer.

Hey Larry, l have a 2019 Ram with a 5.7 Hemi. It does have a towing package and I am having a brake controller installed on Wednesday. We’ll probably use the TM hopefully once a month for a 3 or 4 day stay at state parks within 500 miles of Hattiesburg, Ms. Thanks.

Marc,

I don't know.... 5.7 Hemi might be a little underpowered (just kidding).

While many don't use a weight distributing hitch, I still use one to restore weight back to the front axle to maintain safe braking and steering. Also, I've found that towing is more comfortable with a WDH, especially with a tongue heavy trailer like the TM.

Because you will likely have hookups wherever you go, as long as you are towing safely, you can probably get whatever you need if you forget something on the way. That has been my philosophy, anyway. That said, I've made some checklists that help me figure out what I want to take. Here are some manuals/checklists right on this site:

https://www.trailmanorowners.com/for...ead.php?t=2358

If you haven't paid for a subscription to this forum, it is well worth it. No one advertises here, just lots of free help and advice. In fact, it was because this forum existed that I finalized my decision to get a Trailmanor.

I'll attach my own version of a checklist. This one has been tailored to my needs, including large print towing checklists that I laminated for use every I pull out with the trailer.

I almost forgot, tow mirrors!

I think I heard about McKesh mirrors from Bill so I got them. They stick out a little farther than most of the clip on or OEM slide out mirrors. Remember that in many locations it is required by law that you be able to see a point 200 feet behind your trailer.

2019 Ram... New style or classic? As for the towing equipment do yourself a favor and spend the money on the OEM integrated brake controller and OEM tow mirrors. Trust me on this. I have a 2017 Ram EcoDiesel and a 2007 3326. It will tow ok without a WDH but it’s a night and day difference how much better it goes with one. I highly recommend the Andersen WDH.

Yup, that was me. Beware of the knock-off copies of the McKesh units from CIPA, model 11650. They are nice looking mirrors, and are tempting because they are about half the price of McKesh. Problem is that they install nicely on the passenger side, but installation and use on the driver's side can be a pain.
