Default Red light on back edge of front roof

There is a little brown strip about 15 inches long on the back edge of my 2002 2720SL front section. When the battery is charged or 110v is plugged in it has a red light on in the middle of it.
It has two wires going into it. a thick one and a thin one.

It really looks like a FM radio antenna but I don't have any idea of the reason for the red light.

Anybody have any idea what I am talking about?

Humor me, I just got this thing a couple of weeks ago.

Dick

I've got a black antenna up there myself. It's has a amplifier in it for the radio signal. Little red LED to show it's on and another parasitic drain on the battery. These use about zero current from the battery but another reason to pull the battery fuse if you are storing it for an extended period. Like over the winter, if your not going to use it.

Yes, it's the FM amplifier and I have found that it doesn't drain the battery between trips (a few weeks or so). When I am storing the TM for longer periods of time I plug it in with a timer that charges for an hour each day, so the antenna's power use is no longer an issue.

I did have a garage door installer insist that the amplifier was going to interfere with my garage door opener signal. Well, he was wrong, but just in case you keep your TM near or in the garage and get strange behavior from your garage door opener, it's something to think about.

Our TM is kept in the garage, with the battery connected at all times. Never had any problem with the door opener signal.

Great idea about using a timer to keep the battery charged!!

Default Trickle charger

Since I keep my TM in the garage, I purchased a trickle charger for a boat battery (about $40.00 at a boat supply store). It keeps the battery charged without overcharging. I leave the battery disconnected from the trailer wiring while charging.

On my 2007 2720SD the FM Ampfiler and its associated red led are not powered when the bathroom walls are down and therefore do not drain the battery if you store your TM closed up. The same can be said for the CO2 detector...
