Default roof vent opeing under way

Just returned from Ohio and North Carolina. Good trip, even with a trailer flat tire in Ohio. It happened in a 'convenient' place. However, the front roof vent opened itself while underway on our way out and on our way back. We made especially sure that the vent was properly closed and assume that road jiggle made this happen. Any suggestions on how to keep it closed all of the time? Thanks. Ken and Olga, Northwoods

Ken,
Had this problem one time...my fix is that when closing the vents I "crank" them shut a bit -- a very little bit -- beyond the initial "closed" position. This puts a bit of tension on the system that, I believe, over-rides the tendency for road vibration to jiggle the vent open. Use care to avoid stripping the screw/nut system on the vent.

We had that problem too. What we did was secure the crank handle with two "mini" bungee cords that ran from the handle to the frame of the light fixture. Now that we have vent covers installed, we don't seem to need the bungees anymore.

Like Mark and Corinne, I crank down pretty hard on the knob. At some point, there is a soft "thump" as a rubber bumper somewhere slips past the edge of the opening. This seems to lock it in place quite well. By the way, this happened on my '02 TM, and now it happens on my '06 TM.

Default BUMP - anything new on this?

Hi - Just got home from our maiden voyage during which two out of three vents opened on the way. Was so much fun opening up on the side of the road to crawl up and close them. In another hour they were open again.

Any new mods on this? Thanks so much!
