Yamaha Generator ef2400is
I know that there have been many posts on generators. I am about to make a purchase for a new generator and this Yamaha looks good. Only question I have is that has anyone tried/used one this size at altitude. I don't live at sea level, mid west...Saskatchewan Canada. It needs to start the a/c in the hot. '04 2720SL

I don't have one yet, but I've been looking - that's the one I would buy if I bought one today.

Go to the Yamaha website, you will notice that Yamaha uses the same engine on its EF2400, EF2800, & EF3000 products. It's a 5.5 HP 171cc engine, and Yamaha lists it on all three products at 5.5 HP. If you think an EF3000 will work in your location, then so will an EF2400, it's got all the horses.

I have the Honda 2000. I don't think the Yamaha was available in March 2005.
If I was buying one today I would get the Yamaha 2400.
I am very close to selling my Honda 2000 and buying a Yamaha 2400, but I really would like to rent or borrow one before I make a commitment to lose money and find out that it is not any better than what I already have.

I would be really interested in knowing at what altitude it no longer will run the a/c.

Well, last night I sold my Honda 2000 for $825 after a one day marketing period using a Phoenix area, internet listing. The guy picked it up at my house and paid me cash. It was a 2 minute transaction. This morning I ordered a Yamaha 2400 from an outfit in Illinois that provides free shipping and doesn't require sales tax. It will be delivered Fed-Ex to my door within 4 business days. I'm eager to help evaluate the Yamaha's suitability for TM use. Our first trip will be later this month to 5000k feet and I'll let everyone know how well (or if) it handles an AC load at that elevation. I may even push it a bit after it has started the AC by adding some additional draws. We have two more trips planned this summer to 6,600 and 8,500 ft. I'll bet I'll find its limitations somewhere along the way. AND -- I think I'm going to modify our Thetford 18 gal Smart-tote so that I can wheel the 80+ lbs (fueled) generator around the campsite to the nearest tree for cabling. The Thetford 18 gal has double wheels front and back and seems to be very well constructed. It shouldn't mind serving double as a generator mule. My back really doesn't need unnecessary challenges.

New Yamaha Generator
Eric,
Sounds like you got a good price for the sale of the Honda - about how old was it anyway? I really like our Honda eu2000i (weight, size, quietness, fuel economy). Unfortunately, is just does not generate quite enough power to run our TM's side-mounted AC (regardless of altitude) I'll be very interested in seeing how the new Yamaha works for you. PS: Did you sell the Honda using "Craigslist" by chance?
Nick

Having the Honda 2000 and considering replacing it with the Yamaha, I not only an anxiously waiting for your feedback regarding altitude, I also am curious if the Yamaha is easier to secure with a chain or cable to deter theft.
The Honda is not designed to be padlocked to anything.
I have never sen a Yamaha, just pictures.
