I recently purchased one. I have only used it twice so far but has worked very good. My SUV was wired for a 4 way plug so I ordered from E Trailer the converter that takes the 4 way to a 7 way. From there I ran a power wire direct to the battery and I learned later to ground the system correctly run the ground directly to the negative. Now it works great. Another point I learned was use an old phone to be your controller. I read that if a call came through on your actual phone and you are using it as the controller you are not on the curt app. So if you need to use the emergency braking your out of luck.

If this is the case, I'd get an old phone, remove the SIM card, and use it exclusively for the brake controller.

I kinda did this with an old Android phone for my rearview camera, TPMS, and leveler. It all runs through the Android phone on the dash.

Here is an update on the Echo brake controller. We just got back from Orlando on about 1500 miles trip. The controller did great. I had a couple of sudden stops in Atlanta and it did great not grabbing it eased the brakes on just right. Now its like any other controller you got to "dial in" the braking response you want. But if you don't want to or it going to be a challenge to mount a traditional controller. It's a great alternative.
