Default How do you clean those upper seals...

I have spent a couple of hours searching for this info and need a lil bit of help.

I noticed that when we picked up our TM that there was a little bit of black mark on curtains and on the ceiling... We took the camper recently to a parking lot to finish the installation of the wdh...when we returned I found there was even more black on the ceiling...I got it off ...fine but want to prevent it...

Yesterday we washed the TM and it looks better then when we brought it home on 07/31/07...I was able to clean the exposed part of the seal on the roof...I also cleaned all of the lower seals...

I feel I need to be inside the TM with the back part lower in order to clean the top of the inner seal. can I just stay inside...while dh lowers the back part of the TM? I was thinking of sitting on the floor in front of the sofa of my 3124ks. Is this a good plan? It not do you have any suggestions? Do I also need to clean the part of the seal on the front side...and if so how?

added this part

then after it is lowered I hope to reach the seal by just standing up or on a step stool if necessary.

Countrygirl, I pretty much did as you describe. I lowered the back shell while leaving the front shell up. I then used a stepladder and long handled brush to get to all the seals that I could see.

We have some black on the ceiling of the front shell and on the door-side front-bed window curtain that has been hard to get off, but since I washed the seals it has not gotten any worse. I saw a tip on one of the other threads about a product to use on the curtains that I plan to try soon.

Good luck!

Hi Bill...I used the Tuff Stuff in an aerosole can from Walmart and it is GREAT! I need another can even though it only took a little bit in the TM. I used the rest on the interior of my duramax. BTW...I left the curtain up and held a towel in place to prevent an oops from over spray. Today I Scotch Guarded all of the curtains where they hang.

Friday night and yesterday I worked at making things for the Tm. Maybe I will start a new thread and post some pics.

We also close the back shell when cleaning the seals. If you leave the upper entry door open there will be an easy access point to the roof of the closed back shell. We set up a step ladder and ease our way (backwards, in a sitting position) onto the closed roof. A two part bucket, one for wash (with your cleaner of choice) the other for rinse along with a drying cloth is all we use to clean the seals. The seals are easily accessible while seated with legs crossed, which helps to distribute your weight. It is also a good idea to move slowly while keeping your weight as evenly distributed as possible. Of course it helps when one of us weighs 168 lbs and the other 105 lbs.

When I've cleaned around there I put the back shell down, then push the front bed in and climb onto it from the tongue. I don't have a slide in the front like some of you, but couldn't you push the slide in and then get into it? The only trouble I had was when I tried to use a hose to rinse and got the bed a little wet.

Do you think I could use a product like the new Mr. Clean disposable wipes...the pop up ones in the blue dispenser? Would I need to rinse if I used those?

We have used the Mr Clean Magic Eraser and it works very well on black marks. Never used it on the seals.

We've tried several different cleaners (mild to medium strength degreasers) and they all recommend rinsing the area. I would go by the directions listed on the product.
