Its a steep learning curve. Much harder than the videos make it look like, lol. I bought some leather to redo the couch also but I'm scared of it. Mans got to know his limitations as i struggle with basic curtains...

My neighbor does really beautiful upholstery in his shop so I'm leaning towards letting him do the couch this winter.

Upholstery is a completely different beast. I would let a pro do that kind of stitching. I'm going to assume you won't see the stitching on your curtain tabs, but a seat cushion...that will be seen daily. You want it looking good. Good luck with both, post pics when you're done.

We just finished replacing our curtains. Quite the task! I found that a needle rated for denim worked fine for my machine. One tip on the tabs: if you twist each tab 90 degrees on the plastic strip it gives you just enough extra space for the sewing machine foot. Otherwise I was sewing on the very edge of the strip which concerned me for possible tear-out when opening and closing the curtains. Just remember to twist the tabs back again before you try to put the curtains up or bad words will result until you figure out what is wrong!
