Default Torsion bar thicknesses

I got out my micrometer, and measured my torsion bars. There are inaccuracies due to rust and a less-than-perfectly-circular profile.

On my 2004 3023:

Front 20.931 mm
Back of front shell 17.760
Front of rear shell 14.665
Back of rear shell 18.031

4 bars that I bought from Kent when he parted down his dad's wrecked 3124:

19.3 mm

A pair of the 19.3 mm bars will go on the back of my front shell, to compensate for the weight I have added with the roof braces, and some antenna mounts I'll be adding.

Error correction. In this post, I copied the TM factory parts list for torsion bars, and noted that they come in two lengths. I surmised that the short bars were for the rear of the TM, and the long bars were for the front. That is not correct. As Bruce suggested in the next post, all the bars on my trailer are 82 inches long. I don't know what the 63 inch bars are for, through Bruce's guess that they are for the smaller Sport model trailers makes sense. I have corrected the info below.

Bill

According to the factory parts list, torsion bars come in pairs, left and right.
Two lengths appear in the list - 63" and 82"
The short bars come in four diameters - 1/2", 9/16", 5/8" and 11/16"
The long bars come in three diameters - 11/16", 3/4", and 13/16"

Summary (corrected):

SHORT BARS (63 inches)
Part# L,R - Diam
40013,4 - 1/2
40015,6 - 9/16
40019,0 - 5/8
40021,2 - 11/16

LONG BARS (82 inches)
Part# L,R - Diam
40011,2 - 11/16
40017,8 - 3/4
40023,4 - 13/16

All of the ones I have from Kent are the 82 inch ones. I wasn't aware that the rear bars are shorter. I'm also wondering if there is a difference on the sport models.

I thought I'd add a little new information based on my upcoming order for my TM. This information may be useful to others if you are adding weight to your shell for one reason or another.
