Default Travel/Campground Recommendations (Maryland to Yellowstone)?

Hi all,

We're planning a trip to Yellowstone for July 2022. Our plan is to stop for a night, hopefully, at the Devil's Tower KOA, and begin our Yellowstone trip on the north end of Yellowstone the next day, with our trip ending later at Grand Tetons (working our way north to south). We live in Maryland and have the following questions for anyone with experience traveling between the Yellowstone/Grand Teton area and the mid-Atlantic/Northeast:

1. Do you have any recommended routes/highways to take or to avoid while towing or in general? We did a car trip to South Dakota this past summer and getting through northern Indiana and around Chicago was fairly miserable.

2. Do you have any recommended campgrounds along the way that you liked for one night stops?

3. Any other thoughts or suggestions related to getting from the mid-Atlantic/northeast out west and back?

Thanks,

John

We towed the 3326 through Chicago en route to the TM factory in South Dakota, and bypassed Chicago through north Indiana on the way home. Agreed, both were miserable to drive. And they were both absurdly expensive for tolls.

Getting around/through Chicago used to be a horrible experience, primarily because of the unending construction and heavy traffic on I-80. Since the construction ended a couple years ago, passing through has ranged from "easy" to "slow but moving". Having the TM in tow slowed things down a bit because what lane I chose was always the wrong lane. But it is do-able.

A Garmin RV GPS is very helpful when towing. It helps keep you in the needed lanes giving lots of good notice, and advises against certain routes based on how suitable they are for towing. This took a a lot of stress out of going to Anaheim Disneyland.

Google maps is more useful for traffic tie-ups and construction.

Edit: I see it is on sale now, not a bad price: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/660527/pn/010-02227-00
