Assuming you mean "factory installed", the answer is yes. The pic is my 2006 2720SL (identical to yours) just as it came from the factory.

Call Ed Lytle at the factory. Ed is great, and you will really enjoy talking to him. He may offer to send you a valance, screws, and instructions, so you can install it yourself. Or he may suggest you go to a TM dealer and get it installed. Most likely, he will leave the choice up to you.

Although I'm not sure why you are getting leakage past the awning housing (perhaps I am wrong about it being thoroughly caulked), the valance should cure it.

[Edit - I see that Leon and I are typing at the same time ... By the way, there is a tutorial on attaching pictures and sizing them correctly in the TM Reference Library, aka "TM Info You Won't Find Anywhere Else". PLEASE don't attach the photos just as they come out of your camera.]

Lets see if it works. (I shrunk them Bill...) If you look closely at the second pic (Sorry, a little blurry but it is there) you can see water coming from behind the awning.

You worked the pictures perfectly, Rock. And sure enough, you have found why you are getting water inside. Add a valance, with a good bead of caulk or a sheet of silicone rubber behind it, and you should be good to go. Congratulations!

Sorry, the handle is an old nickname, one of (too) many; the name is Ron Smith and thanks to you and the others for all your assistance.

Thank you Leon, I will opt to do it myself as I hope never to visit my local dealer ever again but also because I am very handy with tools so a square drive screwdriver is not an issue. Thanks to this forum I already had a complete tool box all full with the recommended tools waiting on my new TM!!! (Including a bottle jack) Matter of fact my son even thought I was crazy as I was staging in my basement all the things we wanted or needed (derrived from personal choice and the TM forum) for our new TM and had it all completed before it even arrived at the dealer.

EMAIL STRING and RESPONSE TO TM REGARDING THE 2720SL DOOR LEAK AS AN FYI
(Pic attached for reference)

Ed,(Lytle)

Firstly, thank you for your response; I was getting worried that this experience would mimic the experience I had with the dealer and so far my experiences with TrailManor (Through your dealer) have been grievous at best.

I would already agree before even the application of the silicone (Which I will do) that with even a liberal application of silicone between the awning and the side wall the (door) area would still be greatly susceptible to leakage in a torrential rain as this would only stop the water that came directly from the roof. I say this due to:

A) The gap between the awning and door. A lessened opportunity for water intrusion by the silicone application but not ample to eradicate potential major leakage in a heavy storm.

By the fact that

B) The closed door’s upper edge extends beyond the wall. (See attached pic)

If in the future the upper side wall edge above the door were to be raised slightly and then extended at the current angle just enough to cover the “closed door” it would act additionally as a valance/drip cap. This would be an ideal permanent repair without the need for an “accessory valance.”

Please send the drip cap and accessories and I would be more than happy to install them myself, that would be most appreciated.

Sincerely,

Ron Smith

Subject: Re: FW: New 2720SL - Missing Valance

Good Morning,

Below is a response from our engineering department. I will send you the drip cap and you can install if necessary. It is attached with screws and butyl tape which will be supplied. We also use an RV type 100% silicone sealant. Make sure the area is clean and maybe wipe with alcohol.

I hope this helps.

Ed

The elimination of the drip cap is intentional. Unfortunately in this case, the seal between the awning and the side wall seems to have been breached. The best fix is the liberal application of silicone between the wall and awning in the affected area. If for some reason the area can't be sufficiently sealed, you can add a drip cap as well.

I took delivery of a 2005 2720 in March 2005. I have the drip cap and the awning.

I wonder what the problem was that resulted in the solution being the removal of the drip cap? Perhaps it was just a way to reduce manufacturing cost.

Ours has the drip cap over the door too. Refer to Bill's post suggesting the potential of this being "overkill" combined with the awning: http://www.trailmanorowners.com/foru...9&postcount=11
I tend to agree with Bill on this and think perhaps the drip cap was being phased out. So, some current model TM's have it, some don't, but this is just speculation.
