Default Dumping into home septic system

Hello old (and new) camping friends. DW and I have moved to the country where we now have an aerated septic sytem. We are wondering whether, if we use a "natural" head chemical, as opposed to one with formaldehyde, we can dump our black and grey tanks, into the septic system? The line at the state park campground dump station was so long last Sunday that we drove home with both tanks half full and I hate to have to drive to town to dump. Thanks! - camp2canoe

I have a septic system also, and use it to dump my Thetford Curve in. No problem as long as you use the proper toilet additive in your TM.

Thanks for the confirmation! Despite having moved on to a standard travel trailer (Hey, we might have bought an Elkmont!), the TM Forum is just the BEST source of information on both camping and non-camping issues! - camp2canoe

Aerated septic systems are a different system then a normal septic systems. They are like a mini wast treatment plant.

I looked at a house on a lake that had an aerated septic systems. My understanding was that the aerator and chlorinator on that system returned the wast water to a state that it was safe to be leached straight into the lake. I don't think the DNR would be happy having camper chemicals leaching into the lakes and rivers? In your case it is a question will the aerator break down the chemicals?

I would check with a local septic specialist? There my be local code regulating.
