Default Adding a Second Battery

I'm considering adding a second battery to our TM. The original (first) battery appears to sit in some kind of a well to keep it in place. How can I secure the second battery, so it doesnt move around while travelling?

I'm I right in thinking that I can leave the existing battery and connections right where they are, and just run wires from battery 2 to battery 1, connect + to + and - to -, same as if was jumping a car battery?

Do I need anything else?

Could not find a previous post convering the aforementioned. If it's out there, a link will suffice. Thanks.

Adding a second battery to a TM is a good idea if you are going to do any boon docking for more than a day or two. Many of us use two with our solar panels.

There are lots of threads on here about how to do this. Mounting batteries in your TM is a little special because of where they are mounted and the need to vent the batteries to the outside. Two batteries are also going to need more support than the thin aluminum shell of the TM.

The consensus is that two 6 volt golf cart batteries in series is better than two 12 volt deep discharge batteries in parallel.

Mario & Idie -

Mike Laupp did a great job of adding a second battery in his 2720SL, tying them down, and handling the weak-floor problem. See his thread at

Ray is right - a pair of 6-volt golf cart batteries in series performs a bit better (it is not a dramatic difference, though) than a pair of equal-size 12-volt batteries in parallel. On the other hand, you already have a 12-volt battery that you may not be anxious to trash, so cost may enter the equation, too. I will probably make the switch when the original 12-volt battery dies.
