I managed to replace the EZ sliding valve on my toilet and picked up the gray foam gasket. The gasket appears to be too big as it looks like 3/4" tall and the Thetford's legs are about 1/2" above the floor. Is it the wrong foam gasket?

The new flange seal has to be compressed a bit -- I usually have someone sit on the toilet while I slide the white plastic clips under the flange nuts. Otherwise, the toilet will loosen up after the seal compresses, which can result in a loss of a water-tight seal.

But be sure you have the right seal. The closet flange seal is the $4.95 part below. I bought my seal kits from this vendor below, and I copied this info from a prior post:

Arrow Trailer Supplies (Ontario, CA)
http://www.arrowtrailer.net/
909-986-3737
ask for Mike - he had to do some work cross referencing various numbers. In case he forgets, his supplier part numbers are:

flange seal: 83-9085 (Thetford part #33364) - $4.95
gasket kit: 83-8171 (Thetford part #09872) - $20.95

Shipping was $7.50

Thetford also has the parts for a few bucks less if you can get a hold of them. Shipping out to CA is also longer.

Dave-

Thanks...I'll order the flange seal from your source. I know the one I got isn't going to compress 1/2" as I tried sitting on it already!

Doing it the first time, it will probably take you a few hours, maybe even an afternoon. Now that I've done it several times, I could do it in an hour.

Default Don't be scared of thedford!!

Well it was time,
had my parts, and read all the info i could find,8 am out the door to find the leak and fix, did not take long to find the left clip was not even slid in, well went ahead and pulled out , new slide plate seals and back together with all new ,less than 3 hrs, this included trip to store to get new slide plates screws, they had rust on the heads, thanks folks for all the info that made this alot less trouble than i thought it was going to be
