Default hitch extender

I used this dual hitch extender for my hitch bike rack and tent trailer. would I safely be able to use this for my 3124kb, which is way heavier than my tent trailer. Would it put any more stress on the vehicle, change tongue weight, hurt my factory tow package, etc. Does physics tell us that extending the distance of the load away from the vehicle adds to the weight of the load?

Heres the product:

Thanks

This thing extends the distance between the hitch ball and the rear axle of the TV, thus increasing the leverage to the TV front axle. If you are using a WDH, you will need to adjust it accordingly. This will increase the weight on the TV front axle and the trailer axle.

The weight of the bikes will further exacerbate the problem. You may be surprised to know that your biggest issue may be with the rating on your trailer tires.

It would be wise to load up your rig for camping and stop at a weigh station and have all axles weighed.

What TV do you have?

I doubt that this will work for your 3124KB. It is rated for 4000# which is less than the GVWR of your TM. There is no spec given for using a WDH on this extender and I have never seen a hitch extender rated for use with a WDH.

That's correct......I see that the OP is towing with a 4-Runner. I wouldn't recommend towing a 3124TM with a 4-Runner without using a WDH.....the 4-Runner has a relatively short WB and my guess would be that your TW is close to 600# + the weight of the bikes. That exceeds your hitch rating (by a long way) w/o a WDH.

Adding this extender and a couple bikes will exacerbate this problem and towing W/O a WDH could make your 4-Runner so front-end light as to be seriously dangerous.

Do you have a ClassIII hitch on your 4-Runner?

Add me as another member that would not recommend this product. Every inch back that you move the ball behind the rear axle adds more weight to that axle, and takes away from the front axle. Now, a WDH will correct that some, but this product probably should not be used with a WDH.

For me, I use the closest hole position that I can when setting up my hitch.

I have a 2005 Sequoia with the factory tow package and a 2720SL. I use a WDH and I would not want any more tongue weight.

If you Google "Hitch extender", there is some information out there.
