You need a bathroom scale, two bricks, and a piece of 2x4 or 2x6 board about 4 feet long. Set one brick on hard ground, and set the scale on the ground about 3 1/2 feet from the first brick. Set the second brick on top of the scale. Set the board across the two bricks, and mark the board exactly halfway between the two bricks. Put the trailer tongue (jack stem) on the mark. At this point, half the tongue weight is coming down on first brick, and half on the scale. So take the weight registered by the scale, and double it. Voila! Tongue weight.

You'd also want to be sure your tongue height is the same as when towing.....
