Default Caulk seal on 2020 2720QB AC roof platform

Hello to all!

Grateful for the resource and valuable information provided by this forum. We are the happy owners of the above camper that has never been slept in! The previous owner purchased it new and kept it stored indoors and it’s currently in my garage.

After washing and waxing it I noticed that the caulking around the AC roof riser appears to have a seam that is not sealed properly. I’m wondering if I can just run a bead of caulk in it to solve.

I searched the forum and saw the posts about the necessity of removing and cleaning the old material. Seeing as this is such a new model and hasn’t been exposed to any elements beyond sitting on the dealer lot, is that necessary?

Want to err on the side of caution. I’m told there is new products that can be applied and adhere to old caulk.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

You’ll want to contact the factory and see what was used. If it’s silicone, you’ll need to remove any and all traces of silicone before putting down new sealant. Nothing sticks to dry silicone, not even new silicone. That said, it doesn’t look like silicone. If it’s Dicor lap sealant, you can install new Dicor over old Dicor.

BigKat -

Please let us know what the factory says, as I have the same question.

Here’s the reply from the factory:

It’s a lap sealant meaning it is self leveling made by Dicor and yes you can go over it

Good to know.

Just make sure it’s clean first. Wipe it with a damp paper towel to remove any loose dirt. Let it dry then have at it.
