Now c'mon, JS! You have no idea what else he tows with this truck! Maybe he pulls jet aircraft down a runway!
On the other hand, I have been on the road for two weeks now, and I have seen several instances of a medium-size crossover vehicle like a Rogue pulling a dual-axle trailer that I know weighed between 10K-12K pounds. Now that is something to be afraid of!

Congrats on the new truck. I just ordered my 2016 Ram. Can't wait till its delivered.
Oh in my younger days I did get training on towing large cargo jets. Now, I just love towing my TM cause it means I'm going camping with my friends.

Better to have more power than you normally need, than to have less power than you normally want! That's why I went with a diesel Grand Cherokee. Plenty of power to get over the mountains.
Speaking of diesel, Padgett, for the last year, diesel fuel has been the same as, or lower, price than gasoline. It has been lower more often than the same price. Paid-off the diesel premium about 20k miles ago, I believe.

Understand and it is a variable. Diesel is running about a dime more than regular but mainly because regular just jumped about 20c and diesel has been staying about the same.
Do think the real answer is direct injection and boost for a gas engine.
BTW in real terms my tractive effort (force where the tire meets the ground) is about the same for my Pentastar as the Diesel, I am just a gear or two down and 1,000-2,000 rpm higher. It is still making 90% of the torque peak at 6400 rpm.
Of course if the diesel had been available when I bought mine, I would have one now.

Very nice rig! My brother has one very similar but maybe 2015.
Please share with us the engine and transmission specs, presence of
a tow package, etc. Also, love to read what you get for fuel mileage
both with and without the camper.
Enjoy!

Ahh! Crew cab, short bed - exactly the right combination in my opinion. Wish we were rigged that way, but the dealer didn't have one at the moment we needed to buy. Long story, but our Supercab regular bed F-150 isn't quite right. On the other hand, we love the 5.0 L engine.

OK DAB1950, you get the long story.
The saga starts with my 2011 Nissan Frontier that was perfectly happy towing the 2417. But it only had a 21 gallon tank, and when towing the range was limited. So I started looking to see if I could add an auxiliary or larger tank. Since this was an SL model, did not think it would look cool to hang jerry cans on the sides. Plus, the cargo capacity was just over 1000 lbs as mine was equipped.
Full size “½” ton pickups come in a great variety of capacities and capabilities, but in researching, I began trying to find a f150 with the new 2.7 L turbo with a payload capacity package, and the 36 gallon fuel tank. Could not find any equipped the way I wanted. Rather than special order, the dealer offered to sell me one with the 3.5 L turbo for the lower price, so seemed like the small difference in gas mileage between them was no longer an issue.
The rig is an xlt with 3.5 EB, 3.55 E-Locker (With the larger EB you get a 10” differential), 7000 lb GVWR and the max trailer tow package, that gets you a larger tranny cooler, stronger bumper and a rating up to 11,700 lbs towing. Also have the integrated brake controller. My yellow sticker lists my payload capacity at 1,863 lbs.
I just passed 1,000 miles so have not been checking the mileage manually. We have not done a long trip (towing or otherwise) but the around town it ranges between 16 and 18 according to the dash meter, a likely lie. For the 100 mile trip we just finished, mostly secondary highway, the average stayed at 16, includes a 1600 ft elevation gain. Loaded and towing, it is very similar to around town mileage, good enough for me. Unloaded, and unconcerned about mileage, this thing hauls some serious you know what.
