Since you live in OC, the California speed limit is that same as it is up here, 55mph. Reality on the road is that my cruise control is set for 57-58 which translates to 1750 rpm on my truck, an optimum towing speed without lugging the engine or causing the transmission to "hunt" for the right gear on most level highways.

Safety comes first when we travel, and we traveled at that speed, in the right-hand lane as we traveled across country this summer where towing speeds were as high as 75 in some states... too fast for me, both for safety and economy.
