Just yesterday received the newest edition of "Trailer Life" and it has an article on the "Blue Ox" starting on page 49.

I was looking at this hitch. There's is a great deal on some refurb units on eBay right now. But the center of the brackets are supposed to be 29" from the tongue and are 9.75" wide which puts them right where the hinge for the swing would be.

Interesting... Can you measure how far back the brackets are from the ball (along the tongue rail, not straight back)? Maybe a picture? I would appreciate it. We are going to add a swing-tongue to my 3326. I just ordered an Andersen but if that doesn't work out I like the design & features of the Blue Ox as well. Is it quiet, compared to say a Reese Dual Cam? What size bars do you use?

Default Blue ox hitch brackets

Shane, the brackets are ca. 29" back from the center of the ball. I am trying to attach a pix that shows there is plenty of room forward of the pivot point. If you do go with a Blue Ox, the real Location / dimension is set by getting the chain from the tension bar up over the bracket to be truly vertical. I need to adjust one of mine now that I have used the hitch for a long road trip and found that I did not get one of mine just in the right spot.

Hitch works great, quiet, easy to load if you have an electric hitch, but even with a manual crank should not be too much of a chore. I bought 1000 lb bars and they are a little stiff. Should get 750's but not sure that another $250 is justified.

I don't see the swing-away tongue pivot... I do see your brackets ahead of the pivots for the pull-out support arms. I was kinda confused when you said you had your brackets ahead of the pivot points, I didn't think it a good idea to mount WDH brackets in front of the swing-away tongue hinge.

Default Blue Ox and break away tongue

Shane, I missed your question. We do not have a swing away hitch; I thought you were concerned about the pivot points for the slide out. If you look at past threads on this hitch this is usually the question, that or height of the rotating piece. Can't help with a swing away hitch question but I can say the hitch is easy to use and quiet. Larry

There are a few TM's that have this interference with the swing; yours and ours. We have a Reese with 750# bars. The final fix was to do away with the swing tongue. It had to many problems and was unsafe.
