Default Going to look at a 2004 3023

I am driving over 12 hours to look at a 3023, it has the couch and 2 chairs style. The pictures all look great and the sales person assures me it is in terrific shape. (I adjust pictures with software for hobby and we all know the stories of used ? sales people). I am trading in a 16 foot bunk house camper so could not take advantage of some of the deals on here. I know to look and look for leaks, but with the type construction does the water make it into the interior?

If the stuff works, there is not much rust and I can open and close it what else should I be looking for. I know to ask them to have battery charged, frig on for at least 1/2 day along with hot water tank.

I leave in 4 days to get there by Tuesday and will not have internet with me (ughhttp://www.trailmanorowners.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif) but really would like some input as I am new to the TM, and already love the idea!

Be sure to allow plenty of time to have the seller go over opening and closing, and setting up the interior. Try it yourself. It should be easy to raise and lower the shells. I'm a 57 year old 5' tall woman and I set up and close down our 2720 by myself all the time.

We've never had water come in, even while setting up and taking down in the rain. It's one of the great things about a TM. I think you will find a 3023 to be leaps and bounds more comfortable than your previous trailer!

Default buyer checklist

If you go to search and type in buyer checklist you will find a couple of posts. The first one "What to look for in a used TM" is pretty good. We bought our TM last August and read a lot about them on this forum, then joined it when we actually bought our 2720. You will find a wealth of information in here and it is more than worth the $12 cost of becoming a site sponsor. You won't regret it.\

We love our TM. It is the first trailer we have owned. We are considering moving up to a 3023. We recently had some hail damage to our TM and may be in the market soon.

Best wishes and enjoy!

Try every single system on the TM. Bring a crawler and go underneath. Check the lift mechanism and see if it looks like it is in good shape.

Check the bathroom and the toilet. You don't have to charge the toilet with chemicals but I would fill and dump it with water all the same.

Check the trailer ID plate make sure it looks intact and correct. You want to be sure that the year is correct.

- Ask the seller to send you the VIN, and have your insurance agent give you a quote and check the VIN claim history for you before you go.
- Body work is hard to do on TrailManors, so consider any dents as permanent features in your deliberations. Look carefully at the interior and exterior seams on the shells (they're probably fine).

Thanks for all the great input. I have a checklist all ready to go and would guess I could spend over 2 hours checking her out. I will let you all know in a week when I get back what I did!

Thanks again

Default Got it home

Thanks to all the great input, I got the camper home. Made the dealer (not a TM one) to replace the tires and deducted several hundred dollars as there is a tiny roof leak and therefore heavy to lift. Argued with their service "genius" that there are 4 torsion bars for front, he said only two, so I let the owner pay the price and when I got home tightened up the back two so I can lift the unit with some difficulty.http://www.trailmanorowners.com/foru...ilies/wink.gif It keeps raining here so cannot re caulk the roof, but will the beginning of next week, if stops raining. Other than the leak (less than a half cup in bucket after 8 hours of driving rain) this camper is in outstanding condition. I stole it, and am not at all ashamed.

Sounds like a real success story! I'm glad to hear it.

One suggestion, which you are probably already aware of. When you go to recaulk, be sure to remove the old caulk first, even if it is not loose. Recently I read on a handyman site devoted to recaulking a shower that "Silicone caulk sticks to nearly everything except itself." If you try to caulk on top of existing caulk, it won't solve the leak problems.
