Default What size Kumho's for a 2027 SL?

I just bought a used 2006 2027SL and want to put tires on it before I bring it home.

The Kumho 875's from what I have read seem to be the tire of choice here. I can order and have them put on where I bought it. From what I can tell here some run 195 R14 and some 205 R14.

Can anyone tell me if they will both fit my TM and what are the pros and cons of each.

Unless you are planning a long immediate trip, you may want to consider or at least do some research on this forum on going to 15" tires & wheels.

It seems to be the general consensus here that the rating on the 15" is far better suited the the fully loaded weight of the 2720SL.

At the same time, I would highly recommend a 2" frame lift (if the trailer doesn't already have one). It's a 30-minute job once the wheels are off the trailer anyway.

Thanks Wayne,

I have read a million posts here already and it was under consideration. I need to get the trailer home and see how much clearance I have at the garage door for the 15". Some have had a problem with the A/C clearing. The tires on the TM are 4 years old so I thought I would just be safe and replace and do the 15" wheels next time I replace. Now I am reconsidering again if someone can tell me how tall the 2027 is with air so I can measure. If it will not fit i might as well get the new 14" tires before bringing it home.

I have only 200 miles to bring it home. It is empty and my new Tundra recommends going only 50 the first 500 miles of towing so I will be going slow. The tires show no sign if problems. I should be ok don't you think?

I would still like some input on the size of the 14" Kumho's as I may have to go that way.

Just one quick suggestion no matter which way you go replace the valve stems with metal one's. I would do that before I brought it home. I think the tires on it would be fine as long as you drove under 60 mph. JMHO.

I have a 2004 2720 SL and the 205 Kumos fit fine...I second the previous recommendation of replacing the valve stems with metal ones..

I used to have 205 R14 Kumhos on my 2000 2720SL until they both blew out a few weeks ago. They were only 3 years old and were properly inflated that morning.

I now have 15" wheels. Who knows if that's the better choice, but that's where I'm putting my money. The larger wheels enable you to get a tire with greater weight capacity, which should result in less heat, and thus, less failure.

Dealing with tire blowouts on the road, especially on the way to a camping trip, is not fun. It's also not fun to deal with at night while it's raining.

And I have a 2720 SL with the Kumho's (205's) and they work just fine. As mentioned b4 ensure you use metal valve stems, regardless of what you get.

In MY case going to the 15's was just WAY to much effort and expense, for no more piece of mind. Each to their own though...

When I bought my Kumho's 3 years ago, they were about $325-$350 installed. My new 15" rims and tires cost about $500, and I didn't have to spend anything else to make the change, so in my case, the additional cost was not much, especially when you consider the possible damage done in the event of a blow out. The rims were ~$45 each.

I also already had the lift kit installed, so clearance was not an issue. I have enough room, but just barely. I believe the 2006 already has the lift kit installed from the factory.

Hey Dave what tires did you go with. My next thing to do on mine is put 15" tires on.

Larry - I got Carlise 225 75/R15 load range E tires. I would have rather gotten Maxxis or Towmaster tires, but being that "the incident' occurred on a Saturday afternoon, the distributors were closed and my options were limited to what the dealer had in stock.

I have about 6,000 miles on the Carlise's already, and no problems, but I wouldn't expect a blow out on a brand new tire either.
