I upgraded to 15" wheels at that point. It's not as expensive as you think. The tires are roughly the same price, and wheels are only about $35-$40 each (x3). Total cost for labor, tires, mounting, and wheels was ~$500. I'd much rather pay an extra $100-$150 now than change another tire in 100 degree heat and waste 6 hours on a trip.

You probably already have the lift kit installed.

Dave, after seeing one of the members trying to put 15" tires on his 1998 TM( I think) and not having enough clearance it scared me. I have a 2000 TM same as yours and installed the left kit. I checked the frame location and it only sets back about 1/2" from the edge of the wheel well. Do you think I will have trouble making them fit?

Larry -

I just measured my TM. There is 7/8" between the forward edge of the frame member and the edge of the wheel well. And with my 15" wheels and 225 73/R15 tires, the smallest gap in between the frame member and the tire is 1.25". I don't think this gap is very important, actually. I'd say as long as you have 1/2" here, you are probably fine. Why? Because the wheel is actually mounted on the torsion arm, which rotates around the axle like a clock hand on a clock. If you look at the inside of the wheel, you should see that as the wheel pops up due to a bump in the road, it should also move forward, away from the frame member.

Of all the 14" Load Range "D" tires what can be recommended?

Cooper?
Kumho?
Hankook?
Michelin?
Triangle?
I don't think Michelin makes trailer (ST) tires.

I went with the Khumo's from Tirerack. They were the only ones I could find readily available. Hope to get 3 years out of them.

I would have done 15's but mine literally just fits in the garage now with the non-low profile A/C

I checked, no lift kit and welded. I am going for the 14" load range "D" for now. Most of my (longer) trips are in cool weather starting in October through February. I will change to 15" in two to three years.

Thanks for all the help and insight.
