Not sure how much it differs from the Highlander but the Honda Odyssey has a unibody and Honda requires a WDH to get the full 3500lb tow rating. I've been under the rear of our Odyssey several times and there is a lot of structural steel under there. It'll be interesting to find out what goldenluvr decided to do about his HL/TM combination.
