Well I have some new information about the Anderson hitch. My new trailer isn't an exception to quality control issues that the RV industry has. I had to take the trailer to the closest authorized dealer for repairs (2 hour trip). This time I was towing under ideal conditions. Still it was a nervous experience with no consistent reason for the sway as far as traffic was concerned. As I arrived at the dealer's front door there was an awful groaning sound as I turned. The dealer confirmed the sound was from the hitch. He said that he had tried 4 or 5 Anderson hitches on different trailers and could not satisfy his customers and would no longer sell them. I returned home thinking if the original dealer couldn't get me some help, I would turn the Anderson into a handsome but expensive paper weight. I just would not be willing to risk a wreck.
I had the two dealers talk to each other. It appears the installer decided to cut too many links out of the chains, and the chain brackets were not evenly spaced back from the ball. A new chain kit is on its way. I was glad to read in one of the above posts that only a few turns on the bolts were needed. The first dealer said to use 6 screw turns and adjust tighter if needed. maybe that is also part of my problem. I get my trailer back in a week or two. I certainly hope the Anderson will work. It is so much lighter to hook and unhook. I will reply with what happens. Thanks again Trailmanor forum!
