My TV I get about 80K miles from the Michelin and swap them out at about 4/32. Current tires 58K with 6-7/32 on an 11/32 tire new. Winter forces me to change tires early at about 4/32. DW's car we only get about 40-50k, but they are performance tires.

Mine are Bridgestone got out the door all 4 tires mounted ,balanced, disposal fee, and taxes. Plus 60000 mile rated, life time balance, road hazard warranty for $501.55. Same 4 tires at Discount Tires were $1100!! Not all dealerships do it but is worth looking into. Good Luck!
Wow!! Note to self to call around some dealers next time I need tires.

I bought Cooper Discoverer AT3's. Highly rated by Consumer Reports.

I find something that works and then tend to stay with it. Are not many reviews that talk about performance in the rain when 50% worn.

Further size is a big variable in price, often more than difference between brands. Paid $786 out the door for four 245x70R17 Michelin LT2s (aka LTX M/S2). That includes about $34/tire installation/disposal/Florida tax so tires were $162 ea.

Can get a great deal on dealer take-offs but know exactly what you are getting and check the date codes. Remember they are considered used tires.

If you're only replacing tires every 8 to 10 years, why would you care what the date code is on dealer tires, if you could get them half price. You're right, they are used, but usually with less than 100 miles on them.

That is often true, I have found. Just so happened the 70-17" Toyo's that fit my truck were priced lower than other sizes. And they were highly recommended by a very reputable local tire dealer for good customer reports on the tread wear. Roughly the same price as above for the complete package, tax, lifetime balance and road hazard etc.

Moral: always look for not only the size you need but close with at least the same load rating. I have seen a 20% difference in price just changing the size or aspect ratio of the same tire. My rule of thumb is that if you drop 10 in aspect then increase 10 in section width. e.g. go from a 225x70 to a 235x60 to a 245x50. Both the diameter and the load will stay about the same. Just make sure your rims are wide enough.

Thanks guys! I haven't been intentionally not replying. I got a big flu smackdown shortly after posting. We're leaning toward Michelins but are now wondering if it is worth spending extra money to get them at Discount Tire rather than Sam's Club or Costco because they are, well, everywhere.
