Equal-i-zer sway control hitch

In about a month I will be getting a TM 2720SL. I have a Tundra V8 with factory trailering package. I would like to buy an Equal-i-zer hitch, since the truck's manual says that I need sway control for a trailer over 2000 pounds. The Equal-izer hitches come in 3 sizes: 600 tongue/6000 trailer, 1000/10000, and 1200/12000. I talked with a hitch specialist at Lindon Hitch (the manufacturer of the Equal-i-zer). He said that the 600 would be more than adequate, but recommended purchase of the 1000, since most people trade up to a bigger trailer after a few years, and getting the 1000 could save a future expense. Are there any negative aspects to towing a TM with the 1000 instead of the 600 pound hitch?

I would recommend getting the 1000/10000 version. I also have a 2720SL and have found the hitch weight to be around 515 lbs. To properly distribute that weight, the 600 lb WDH bars are going to be pretty close to their maximum deflection...which can lead to binding (particularly if you also have the swing away hitch option). My original Reese bars were only 550 lb rated and I could never get proper weight distribution without binding...so the tow vehicle was always nose high. I switched to 750 lb bars and solved my problem. TrailManors have substantially higher tongue weights relative to total trailer weight than most travel trailers...makes them very stable but also requires beefier weight distributing hitches.

I just recently upgraded to the Equal-i-zer hitch and purchased the 10,000/1,000 lb. set-up. I am towing a 3023 with a GMC Safari van. The van has pretty light springs on the back end and I was unhappy with the tail end dropping significantly with my Reese set-up 350 lb. spring bars. I am extremely happy with the Equal-i-zer hitch. The 1,000 lb. spring bars completely level my tow rig with the front bumper and rear bumper equal heights from the ground. The integrated anti-sway of the Equal-i-zer is an added bonus.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm with kd -- 10,000lb with 1,000 lb tongue lets you handle any TM with room to spare.

I have a 600# model joining my Ranger and TM, but would get the 1000# model were I to buy again. Everyone else is right on. Very pleased with performance of hitch in all regards even with lighter model.
