Tongue Jack Protocol (Two-topic thread has been split)

When our TM is opened up and set up, I leave the tongue jack resting on the caster wheel. I notice that a lot of camper folk leave off their caster wheel and rest their tongue jack on a block of wood or some boards. Am I making a mistake by not removing the caster wheel. Seems like it should be no problem as the stabilizer jacks are down and no great weight on the caster wheel.

As for the landing wheel,I only use that when storing the TM in the garage and I need to make small final adjustments. At the campsite, putting the jack on a few blocks just seems to make it more stable.

I haven't used the caster wheel once since I bought the TM. Whenever it's not attached to our TV, it's on a wood block.

I always have the wheel on. I tired setting the end of the open pipe on a block of wood, but that looked unstable.

If I was tempted to remove the wheel I would buy the blank plate jack end.

Ours only had the flat plate on it when we bought it - never had a wheel. The flat plate rests on a wood block when in storage or camping.

We use the Metal Flat plate that came with the TM when we can & sometimes depending on height we use a plastic stand bought at Camping World.

We bought our TM second hand and it didn't come with a wheel or plate. After buying a generic wheel at the local (non-TM) camper dealer, we quickly found out that the wheel doesn't allow the front end to get low enough to level the camper in most campsites that we've tried, so it's just an extra bulky object to carry around. We just use a block of wood and/or a flat rock.

Regarding the wheel... sometime within the first year of ownership I left it on when towing back home and ... needed a replacement after I hit a curb. Never made that mistake again, yet somehow within the 2nd year I hit the ground on an odly sloped entrance into a fast food place. (yea the extender jack was up as high as it could go.) At that I just left it as is (the tube is bent enough that I can't get the wheel back in anymore).

I now use one of those cone thingies and I had a spare metal plate lying around the house that I put on the ground if we're camping on anything but pavement. Works completely fine for me. Though I do need a spotter to back me up precisely underneath the jack. But for the last 5+ years, that's been working just fine.

I use the wheel every time. Am I admitting I don't rendezvous for docking perfectly every time? Yep. This may not be as much use if your camper is bigger/heavier than a 2619.

I use my tongue jack wheel extensively. I almost always fine tune my parking job at the camp site by hand since it seems faster to me then to back up over and over again. I actually feel that this capability is a great feature of the TM line. They are so light you can push em, roll em, whatever. Even at home, where I have use of a harbor freight dolly, there are some movements that can't be done with the dolly that are easy with jack wheel.
