Default Loose Roof Molding (two-topic thread has been split)

Just two questions this time:

While washing the roof of our TM, I noticed that the molding strip that covers the center roof seam is loose in a couple of spots. What do I use to glue it down?

Thanks as always.

That molding strip should have a bead of caulk on either side. That would hold it down and prevent water from getting into the seam.

I had the same problem when we first bought our TM. That molding strip has a piece of 3M self-adhesive tape on the underside. I bought a new piece from the factory, and cut a curve into the end to prevent a corner from pulling off. I then pulled off the old piece, cleaned up the surface with acetone, applied 3M 94 tape primer (according to the TM factory's advice), and applied the new molding. It is firmly attached, and hasn't moved one bit in over 2 years. And we have camped and driven through temps ranging from the teens to 105 F.

The center roof seam probably just needs to be recaulked, it wears out over time. Depending on how bad it is I would think about stripping and replacing the entire caulk seam, then you should be good to go for a few more years.

my center strip is loose too. I'll recaulk it till I have a chance to do the 3m-tape thing suggested elsewhere in this thread. It's about to start raining here in the Pacific Northwest.

Does anyone know where I might find this primer? I've found a couple of places that sell it online but we've got good weather coming our way and I'm hoping to pick it up locally. Home Depot and Lowe's are out of the running.

Thanks,
Malinda

I ordered mine online, but didn't really check locally. On the other hand, I don't ever remember seeing this stuff anywhere. It comes in a small plainly marked white can with a small 3M logo.

You might try an auto detailing place that would use the stuff to apply striping or something to vehicles. They may even give you some for a few bucks. You don't need much.
