Ford still has a lot of bugs to work out on their Ecoboost. Just search for Ecoboost intake valve carbon. Ford has a new Ecoboost that has two sets of injectors: one set before the valves to keep them cleaner, and the other set in cylinder. This may have solved the problem, but I'm still waiting and seeing. Also, for some reason, Ford put the water pump inside the engine rather than bolted outside on some Ecoboost engines. (I think it's the FWD models). Imagine the headache when the waterpump dies.

Oh I agree, they screwed it up as badly as only a major corporation can. Still I believe that DI gas engines with boost is the future (barring government intervention).

Want a success story ? Look at the Hyundai Turbo Veloster. 201hp at 6000 rpm and 195 lb-ft @ 1750 - 4500 rpm (175 lb-ft at 6000 rpm) from 1.6 liters. Now scale that to a 3.5 liters 6.
