Towing with a 2011 Tacoma fully loaded at a max of 60 miles an hour it is between 14 and 15 mpg.

We get around 13 to 15 depending on wind direction and hills or mountains. In big mountains, we have dropped down to 11. I hardly ever drive over 60mph. The little Isuzu has its hands full when in the mountains for sure. 6 cylinder know the TM is there when it comes to power pulling up hill, but no problem with it being stable. We are currently in California where speed is 55mph for towing. I like this speed limit. When we get home, we might look for something a bit more powerful. We have towed the TM over 20k miles with the Isuzu. Has 132k on it and replaced the tranny once. I think it might be a load on the tranny even though we do have a cooler.

I find my mileage drops noticeably in hilly and mountainous terrain. Flat only 1-2 miles per gallon difference. Fortunately because of the low profile a head wind is less of a factor vs a conventional trailer. If you are going to be peripatetic then a TM really pays off. If you are not driving far and plan to spend most of your time in one place, then conventional RV is more manageable. So I'd suggest how you plan to use your RV needs to be factored into your decision.

The hard part about the gas mileage question is the different ways people talk about it. Some people use the vehicle's estimated mileage display, which is certainly easier than most other choices. Some want to talk about what the mileage display indicates when you're cruising at a certain speed on level ground. For me, the only thing that counts is the miles between two fill-ups divided by the number of gallons you buy at the second one.

On that basis, I get about 20 in my daily driving and 16-17 when towing the TM (for me, the best part of the TrailManor is being able to tow it with my daily driver).

But I don't ever tow the TM in my daily driving, nor do I drive the tow vehicle on a road trip to a camping destination without towing the TM. And if I did, I would drive substantially faster than my 60mph towing speed on the Interstate to get there. And, one more variable, mileage always drops with the amount of alcohol and other oxygenators they add to gas in the region you buy it.

So, I'm pleased to share my answer, even though I'm not sure I've really pinned it down yet.

When I tow my TM from Orange County, CA to Tucson AZ I usually get about 16 mpg at 55-60 mph.

Once I got a little over 16mpg towing from San Jose, CA to Reno, NV towing over a 7000' pass!

TV is a 2010 F-150 4.6 3 valve V8, (basically a Mustang motor with a truck camshaft and computer program), and a 6 speed trans.

We just bought a 2014 Durango 3.6L AWD that will seat 7. Around town we get 22 - 24 mpg. On our 1st trip with the TM, this past weekend, we averaged 17 mpg. Interstate w/most of the towing at ~63 mph. Cruise set and AC on. The Durango has an 8 (!!) speed automatic trans with paddle shifters on the steering wheel like a sports car. I towed mostly in 7th on the semi flat and shifted down to 5th on the steepest hill (Afton Mtn., VA). The Transmission temp gauge never cracked 200. Outside temps were in the mid to high 70's.

Hey all.

We just returned from an extended trip from MPLS, MN to Mesa, AZ., Then on to California to see the "Joshua Tree Nat'l Park, then on to Ontario, CA for a repair stop at Custom RV and on to Kings Canyon and Sequoia Nat'l Park and finishing up at Yosemite Nat'l Park before the return trip across Wyoming and spending an extra day in Laramie due to I-80 being closed due to snow and cold (9 degrees on Sunday night) and 8600 plus elevation pass going into Cheyenne Then being welcomed home by rain and snow for the last 80 miles into MPLS.
We tow with a 2006 Toyota 4Runner V8. Our mileage was from a low of 10 .9 because of head winds on the way down to AZ and a really strong cross wind across Nebraska and Iowa, 25 plus mph. To a high of 17.4 with a tail wind of 25 to 35 up interstate 35 out of Des Moines all the way to MPLS.

With normal conditions we get between 12 and 15 mpg.

Zeroed everything before I left the dealer and was running 65-67 with the cruise & ac on from Bellview to Orlando (about 60 miles). Only hills on the turnpike around Clermont. Both the EVIC and Torque agreed on 18.5 mpg. Will know more when I take a real trip

For you mileage drop, I think it all comes down to the size of you engine and your axle gearing.

The smaller your engine the greater hit you will take on the mileage drop because it has to work that much harder. My little V6 delivers about 24 mpg on the highway with the TM on a 600 mile trip it was getting about 16.5. About what I expected. With the same TV and a popup with about 60% the frontal area of the TM, it was getting about 18 MPG

But with my TV, it's my daily commuter. I like that 16 to 18K miles a year I get 24 mpg. So I will stay with the V6 when I get a new TV and take the larger mileage hit on our 4k miles per year pulling the TM.
