Default Envoy tires

My Envoy will probably need tires in the next year or so. They don't seem to make an LT tire in my size (245/65R17) unless I want an aggressive A/T tire. This is my daily driver 95% of the time so I don't really want to go that route. I've seen a few extra load rated (XL) tires. Anyone have any experience with these? Assumin they have a stiffer sidewalk? Any recommendations on brand & model? Thanks!

On tirerack.com, I found some options from Michelin that may work for you. I personally have had very good success with Michelin, specifically LTX and Latitude in terms of all around performance paired with an excellent highway ride:

Exclamation Use caution

if changing from P metric to LT. Read and understand the load ratings of the different types. You will usually have to run the LT's at a higher air pressure to get the same load rating.

Maybe wmtire has some thoughts here although I haven't seen him post is awhile.

I'm not sure I want to switch to an LT tire. I did that on an old GMC Sierra 1500 when I put a plow on it and the ride was awful, the extra weight killed my mpg, and I had a hard time dialing in the tire pressures. This Envoy is my daily driver and won't be hitched up to the camper most of the time so those are considerations. I'm more interested in the XL rated tires; I think they are a compromise between P and LT tires. I've seen the Michelins, considering those. Also saw BFG offers the Rugged Terrain XL in certain sizes, haven't confirmed they are available in my size. Not a fan of Hankook or Kumho tires and I don't want some of brand that will last only 2 years...

My Jeep has 245x70x17s and I changed to Michelin LT2s from Sam's. Is a highway tread.

Stock GoodYears had the TC light going when 1/2 worn and even a little wet. Michelins can get down to about 4/32" before they start to loose traction in the wet. We get a lot of rain here and I've had a lot of Michelins.
