Default Advice for newbie with 2011 2720 water damage?

Hello All,

I hope this message finds you well. I have been following your forum for some time and have found it to be very helpful as I am looking to buy a 2720 or 2417. I found a 2011 2720 SL for sale and the seller has been very honest with pics and any damage. I would have to drive a long distance (10 hours) to view the camper in person. I am concerned about potential water damage as indicated by the pics and what the seller has indicated is sponginess in the floor in front of the door. My questions are:

How concerned should I be about this? I know there is a lot of aluminum in Trailmanors. So, is this just an issue of peeling up and replacing linoleum or am I in for larger issues such as wood rot and water intrusion into foam?

Also, if I move forward how much should I discount my offer from their starting price of $10,000?

I have attached the pics of:
1. the floor by the door where the linoleum is bubbled up (area of bubbling and sponginess is the area between the door, the flip flops and the paper towel)
2. where water wicked up the cabinet
3. front view of linoleum bubbled up and then peeled back
4. the roof vents that is leaking

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give to this newbie. Your advice will likely determine whether I make the trip to view this.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I am pretty new here as well but not new to travel trailers. I recently bought a 2010 2720 for $10k in excellent condition so I say keep looking. Not sure where you are located but there are better deals to be had. There is a really nice 2003 for sale in WV for $11k that I had a deposit on but backed out when I found the 2010. The 2003 was garage kept and appears to be in mint condition with everything functioning. If that is near you it would be worth checking out.

With water damage you won’t truly know what you are getting into until you tear it all down. Since you can’t do that until you’ve bought it, that’s a risky move. Unless you enjoy projects like that and can get it for half that price I’d say it isn’t worth it.

I think what Cire74 says make quite a bit of sense, but the offer also depends on the condition of other components as well, some of which are hard to assess by pictures.

1) How easy is it to lift the shells? It should be pretty easy, I can do my front shell with one hand and I'm not a big guy. It can be adjusted, but if the adjustment is maxed out, you're looking at new torsion bars which is a lot of work.

2) It is common for the vinyl flooring to separate and make the floor feel spongy. The water could have been from washing dishes, wet shoes who knows. When I ripped out my flooring I discovered that the water had degraded and separated the aluminum from the styrofoam from underneath as well. It was repairable, but how many repairs do you want to make for $10,000?

3) The rust around the vent indicates they have been leaking for some time and need resealing. This water may have leaked down and rotted the luan plywood by the kitchen.

4) The bag seals are stapled to wood. This wood may have rotted out and would need replacing.

All of the above is repairable. How much work do you want to do? Can you assess this easily over the phone and with pictures?

I got my 2001 2720 for about $6000. But here on the west coast, that represented a good deal because Trailmanors are usually quite expensive out here. I knew I'd be repairing things myself, and I have had to do so, actually more than I would have liked.

Default Thanks for your thoughts

Cire74 and Larryjb,

Thank you for your input. I have decided to pass on this particular trailer. Cire74, you actually beat me to the one you purchased. I am out of Texas but was in Missouri when the one you bought went up for sale. Looks like a great unit. Anyway, if you know of any 2417's or 2720's for sale please feel free to pass along the info to me.

Best regards
