Default Traveling with a cat

We're on the third cat of our lives, he's 12 years old. Is anyone interested about a topic about traveling in the TM with pets? Don't know why or how, but they find us. A beautiful, big ginger boy. We can't leave him at home.

Yes, I would be interested in knowing about traveling with a cat, as there maybe a time when we will have to do that.

When I was a kid we had a cat and took her to our cabin. The first few years we kept her in a whicker picnic basket so she wouldn't start wandering around. This was the same basket she used for sleeping in. (We trained her to sleep in this picnic basket that had a lockable lid and window). After a few years we were able to safely let her walk around the vehicle while we drove. We usually had to walk 1/4 mile from the truck to the cabin and she followed us.

i guess every cat would be different though.

We have always TM'ed with one dog or one cat, and for years with one of each. The dog was always interested in riding in the truck and living in the TM. The cat took a bit more time getting used to it, but became very happy with riding and TMing. When riding, they slept together on the back seat of the truck. In the TM, they both had their hangout spots. At night, they slept where they wanted - the dog with us, the cat usually on the chair. We have never used a crate for either. We always walked the cat on a leash, since he/she wasn't really good at obeying voice commands, and being curious, like all cats, would wander off. We also walked the dog on a leash. She would walk well without one, but she was interested in meeting other dogs, as well as children (she was certified to work with kids in hospitals), which slowed our walks if we couldn't urge her along.

Both were wonderful companions, and added a lot of joy to our trips.

Did you keep them in the TM while you were towing it? I thought that the fumes from the truck exhaust would be sucked into the TM and create a toxic condition for any pets inside?

Sorry, poor phrasing. While we were towing, they shared the back seat of the truck. I would never put an animal in the TM while towing - though I've run into a few people who might have belonged there.

Did you know that in some states it is legal to ride in a travel trailer or fifth wheel while towing? That sounds like a miserable journey…

Recently found out our 14 year old cat has become diabetic, so we will need to take her everywhere with us, so I can give her the insulin shots twice a day. I’d love to hear about cat experiences while traveling.

Due to health issues (not lethal) we haven't been anywhere with the cat yet. I have a bum right shoulder that I'm told won't recover without a total shoulder replacement, which I don't want to do, I can endure a moderate amount of pain. Our new cat (of about 14 - 15 years) just brought us a headless rabbit on our front door mat this morning, he's a wild child, but so sweet with us. I'm going to try to start sleeping in the TM with him, we have a huge driveway and trying to get the right size litter box to fit into the cabinet under the dinette seat next to the heater. We cut a hole in the siding in the front of the cabinet so she could get in. He is way bigger than our first Camping Kitty; she got under the the dinette seat without any problem. Only downside to that arrangement is when we started eating a meal and she had to go!
