Default Aged Tires: A Hidden Danger On The Road?

Wmtire has been providing us with great info about tires and specifically the codes on the tires, I just wanted to share these links w/photos:

1) Definition of DOT codes on the side of tires: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/popup?...=3&start=false

2) ABC News Article titled "Aged Tires: A Hidden Danger On The Road?": http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4813029&page=1

One of the best articles I've seen on the subject.

This is great info and links...thanks! Pretty scarey stuff on how they will sell really old tires. I know we will check born on dates very closely!

just went to my local tire shop last Sat. to pick up new tires I ordered in prep of our upcoming trip. While waiting to be directed where to park the trailer, I noticed the tires near the truck that had just delivered them. I went to check them out, they sure looked new with the stickers on the tread. Imagine my surprise when on closer look, the date was older than the tires I was replacing. The manager tried to tell me that although they were old, they were stored in a climate controlled warehouse and not subject to the elements. That those tires would have been installed if I did'nt see them first, or if I did'nt know to check, should be criminal. Just hope the next customer checks, or someone will be buying dangerous old new tires.
Safe camping everyone.
